Because heroin is such a strongly addictive substance, it’s important when a person to decides to stop using to receive proper medical oversight and support in order to ensure physical and psychological safety. Our heroin detox treatment process ensures this gradual process by a combination of prescription medications and other forms of medical and psychological support, to help any discomfort and stress people may experience, throughout this time.
As heroin causes the brain and body to become dependent upon the substance, it’s important for the body to detox gradually, in order to minimize negative symptoms and risks.
Symptoms of Heroin Withdrawal
As many people are aware, the symptoms throughout the heroin detox process can be significant, and can also make people vulnerable to relapse. Some of the symptoms of withdrawal when you detox heroin include but are not limited to:
- Increased heart rate,
- Increased cravings,
- Dilated pupils,
- Increased blood pressure,
In order to alleviate the severity of symptoms and provide people with relief during this time, we sometimes administer controlled amounts of opioids such as methadone or Naltrexone, in order to control the withdrawal process.
