Stereetypcial Drug Dealers
The stereotypical drug dealer might look like a hoodlum from the streets, running and gunning with his homies, hooking kids on dime bags and slinging rocks from the corner. When the topic of drug dealers comes up at the dinner table, we don’t immediately think of pharmaceutical companies and their representatives, or even doctors as the culprits of getting society hooked on drugs. Yet, without the over-prescribing of narcotic medication that has been going on, America’s morgues wouldn’t be nearly as full as they are now.
Be Aware Of Drug Abuse Warning Signs
If you are a parent, be cognizant of what is in your medicine cabinet. This is easy access for kids and their friends, and they are not shy about sneaking a few pills here and few pills there. It’s not uncommon for a doctor to prescribe more than what is needed, and then they end up sitting on a shelf, long forgotten by you, but newly discovered by your teen. You may have an honor student, but even honor students take drugs. Be aware of the warning signs of prescription drug abuse, and stay aware, stay cognizant, and stay vigilant.
If you are an addict or alcoholic in recovery, you know what you need to do. Your doctors and your dentist better be well aware of your disease. No, it’s not easy to tell on yourself, but it’s a lot easier than falling back down the rabbit hole of addiction. If we don’t protect ourselves from rekindling our disease, no one else will. It’s unfortunate the lack of time doctors are required to spend on addiction medicine while in school. Astoundingly, it equates to only a few hours over four years. If you don’t speak up, you could very well end up with a Vicodin prescription, and an uphill battle you thought couldn’t get worse until now.
