Put Down the Shovel

If you put down the shovel, the hole you are digging stops getting deeper. It’s a simple concept, but one most of us in active addiction don’t seem to understand. The disease of addiction wants us dead, and as soon as that hole is six feet deep, its work is done. Our goal, is to help you put your shovel down before it’s too late. Getting sober is not easy. In fact, it’s hard work, but so is addiction. It’s up to you to decide where you want your hard work to go: obsessing, planning, and constantly chasing the next high, or learning to live freely, unchained to addiction in a life that is all yours.

Once you put down the shovel, you may be wondering, what next? Once you get through detox, we will teach you the tools you need to live your life sober. Living a sober lifestyle doesn’t come naturally for addicts and alcoholics, but when you come to treatment, you begin doing so, one day at a time. As you become more comfortable, you will start developing habits that make living a life free of drugs and alcohol, natural. The most freeing feeling, is that you won’t obsess about drinking or using anymore. In fact, it will rarely cross your mind. That in and of itself is a miracle.

If your life has been on the slow decline, or suddenly everything is overwhelming and it’s just too much, there is a solution. Alcoholism and drug addiction are treatable, but you have to want to stop drinking and using. If you don’t want to quit living your life chained to the bottle or drugs, nothing will change. Getting clean and sober isn’t something any of us do alone. We have to wave that white flag of surrender, ask for help, and become willing to do whatever it takes to get and stay sober. By choosing to go to treatment, we choose to participate daily in various therapies, healing methodologies, and activities which help us dig ourselves out of our hole of alcoholism- and stay out. Each component of a treatment program is designed to help us learn how to live a different and better life without the use of drugs and alcohol. We realize that we choose to pick up the shovel and choose to dig ourselves into a hole. At times, we might find ourselves covered in more dirt than we were aware of. Once again, we just put the shovel down.
