Recovery Inspiration

On Oct 21, 2015, President Obama gave a speech addressing the issue of drug addiction and drug overdose deaths. Along with many other terrifying statistics, Obama pointed out that each year, more Americans die from drug overdoses than car crashes.

He also spoke about his proposed 2016 budget which offers more than $100 million for overdose prevention and medically assisted treatment programs.

After hearing this speech, a heavy-drug user in his 30s decided to take action by calling the police to his home. When the police arrived, the man put his hands against the wall, asked for help, and showed the officers a cooler full of 16 Suboxone packs, 158 painkillers, and 19 grams of ecstasy.

The Kanawha Country Sheriff’s Office said, “No criminal charges were filed in connection with this matter, and none will be filed. We applaud this person’s self-initiated efforts and wish him well in his recovery.”
