The gifts of recovery look different to everyone. For some people, it means getting out and living the life of your dreams. Maybe you travel and adventure, maybe you dive into a career you’ve been chasing for years. Wherever recovery takes you, make sure you take your recovery.

Everywhere You Go, There You Are

You might have heard the term “pulling a geographic” before when addicts and alcoholics thought that moving their location would solve all their problems. Turns out, the location is rarely the problem, at least not the primary one. Instead, the problem is something much bigger, like addiction and alcoholism. Getting out and seeing the world isn’t an opportunity to run from your problems. It’s a gift that only comes from the fact that you’re clean and sober living in recovery. That means everywhere you go, there your recovery has to be.

Be A Meeting Traveler

Have you ever seen a “big book” in another language? Or sat in a room in a foreign land looking at the same 12 steps you see in your meetings at home? It is quite the experience. Going to recovery support meetings like Alcoholics Anonymous is a great way to take your recovery with you everywhere you go. You find that the world is really that big, but also that small. Everyone in recovery shares similar experiences, and because everyone is using the same book to do the steps (when in book-oriented groups) you are all sharing the same recovery. It’s wild!

Schedule With Your Therapist

Facetime, Skype, Whatsapp, Phone Calls- therapy on the go is easy to do. Remember, you get out of your recovery what you put into it. Therapy while you’re out living life won’t always be easy, but it is always possible. Stay connected and stay accountable with your therapist, especially if you start experiencing cravings or strange shifts in mood.

Inspiration Need Never Be Left At Home

Inspiration on the move? There’s a million apps for that! Download a book, a podcast, a daily meditation app, or even movies which inspire your recovery. The world is an inspiring place, because your recovery makes it that way.
